A graduate of Carleton University’s Music and Philosophy programs, with Highest Honours and Dean’s List recognition, Mike St-Jean divides his time between composition, performance and production. After a 9 country tour of Europe & North America, drumming with the Ottawa-based JW Jones Blues Band, this ambitious musician and entrepreneur recently relocated to Vancouver where he’s been immersed in the local jazz and popular music scenes, developing and exercising music performance, studio engineering, and business skills, while researching graduate school possibilities.

The creative and innovative musician’s direction has developed from two distinct yet highly interconnected experiences. Musical life- performing in countless groups and venues internationally, and innumerable days spent in recording studios in front of and behind the mixing board -and formal education, has provided a wealth of musical knowledge that is theoretical & cultural, local & national, present & historical. With this, he brings an appreciation of every aspect of the world’s music from many perspectives, as well as the ability to consider and ponder future trends within the musical spectrum.

In 2004, St-Jean co-founded Easel, an online art community, promotional service and e-commerce tool where unpublished artists come virtually from around the world to exhibit and sell their works – paintings, photos, music and writings – and to share in their ideas and knowledge in community forums. This small business venture has provided an understanding of various aspects of the business side of the art and music industry. Having planned, promoted and executed several public events, namely Easel Outside & Easel Inside, over the years Mike has acquired the knowledge and experience concerning professional formalities, time management, meeting preparation, and with attention to detail, necessary to the planning and execution of a small business and creative events.

This harmony of accomplished musicianship and business savvy make Mike St-Jean an artist to keep your eye on in 2009.
